What it’s about

Every young woman dreams of wearing a crown.

But never a fae crown.

Because the crowns of the fae are forged with blood.

Being the forced bride of a fae king was supposed to be torture. King Aspen was supposed to be my enemy.

But I was wrong about him. So wrong I think I might be in love with him.

With our wedding just three days away, we are closer than ever to securing the treaty between the humans and fae. But when my past becomes grounds for invalidating our alliance, war looms yet again.

I’m the only one who can save the Fair Isle. If I do it, I’ll have to give up the man I love. Return to the human realm. Face death.

I swore I’d do anything to save my people. But who are my people? The answer should be easy. The humans. There’s just one problem.

I might not be human after all…

What I thought

I’ve managed to get this book done in a few hours so this might seem a little choppy but I’m sure you won’t mind. After that ending, I wasn’t sure where this book was going with some of the characters but I was in for a pleasant surprise.

Unlike a lot of trilogies, I have read this didn’t have the dreaded second book used as a filler feeling. This continues nicely from To Carve A Fae Heart and picks up where we left off. The treaty is being used as leverage against the Fae and Evie wants to protect the humans as is her right but something isn’t quite right.

Evie, as expected, has a fair few surprises on the way and although I did guess this halfway through book one it was not only a great feeling to know I was right but it was also written really well and had me second-guessing at some points. I am still waiting for more from Aspen, I think there is definitely something more to him.

In this book, we have almost the original cast of characters (minus two that I can think of) and we are introduced to a couple more who are fascinating I’d love to hear their side of things but I am being cautious of spoilers because I could easily just give a slight hint of things to come but that’s not the point of these reviews.

The world-building is once again well done and I love the idea of adding typical Fae type events such as Beltane although it doesn’t go into it. There are a few mature themes but there is no smut which I know will disappoint some but others might be relieved at that.

I already have book three waiting for me and to be honest, I could have guessed the ending of this book thanks to the title of the next one.
