What it’s about

Book Cover

Bound by blood.
Tempted by desire.
Unleashed by destiny.

Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life—working hard all day and partying all night—until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She’ll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose—to assassinate his boss’s enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he’s offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.

As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City’s underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion—one that could set them both free, if they’d only let it.

With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom—and the power of love.

What I Thought

Quick disclaimer before I go into any review for this. I have done a review for this before but I was unfortunetly unable to save any of my work before the blog closed permanently. secondly I started this book then had a month or two before I continued reading it as I had a fair few NetGalley requests that were coming up to their publication date, so they took my priority.

I actually kind of forgot how long it takes to get into this story but in my honest opinion (because isn’t that what you’re here for?) this is definitely worth it.

Bryce is a really interesting character because she’s been so much as such a young age and life still throws shit at her and its like water off a ducks back on the outside. If she was a real person it would be really admirable. But there is only so much you can take before that straw breaks the camels back. The sarky/sassy attitude could have gotten old real quick however I didn’t allow it to bother me due to it being her defense mechanism.

Hunt for me is difficult to describe. I really like the character and found his development fascinating. I just have one question, why do they always have to act like an alphahole or broody and still manage to get the girl? His back story did seem heart breaking. I thought the idea of Bryce and Hunt being each others minor was intriguing.

There were a few twists and turns thoughtout this that I enjoyed the first time around and I’m happy that I couldn’t remember the ending because (specifically with the ending of the Noxx if you catch my drift). It was like reading it for the first time again.

Thus is definitely a story I’d be revisiting again, especially as I got away with listening to an audio book while working.

Also another FYI I’m writing this at midnight so if it’s a little incoherent it’s down to writing this the second I finished. The next one I will give time to sink in more.
