What it’s about

When you catch your fiancé cheating on you with your sister on Christmas Eve, the elf hat comes off.
I’ve always been the good girl—the anti-Scrooge—the one who sacrifices for her guests, bakes cookies for her neighbours, and stays late after a party to clean up.
I don’t mind. I like being on the nice list.
I kept smiling when I caught my fiancé coming down my sister’s chimney on Christmas Eve.
I gave polite congratulations when they got engaged on Christmas morning.
And I even offered to help decorate for their holiday wedding despite the fact that was supposed to be my dream wedding.
But when my sister cuts up our great-grandmother’s one-hundred-year-old wedding dress and turns it into a skank show, even though that was the dress I was going to wear on my wedding day?
Well, this elf is torching down the North Pole.
And what better way to get revenge than giving those cheaters a taste of their own medicine?
This good elf is bringing the bad boy home for Christmas.
Hudson is a six-foot-five, coldhearted, tattooed bad elf with a perpetual sneer and washboard abs.
He’s exactly my sister’s type.
And he’s going to help me nuke her wedding from orbit on the night before Christmas.
What he is not supposed to do is grab my ass in the kitchen while I bake gingerbread.
Or crawl in my bed half naked.
And he’s definitely not supposed to smirk and tell me to commit to our fake relationship right before he goes down on me.
Guess there’s a reason the good elves stay far away from the bad.
Good elves of Christmas unite! We’re ogling the tattooed chests of shirtless bad boys, baking massive amounts of cookies, drinking all the wine, and trying to survive recently divorced grandmothers who have a pathological obsession with our love lives. This standalone holiday romantic comedy has all the Christmas cheer you can fit in your stocking and a happily ever after, guaranteed!
What I Thought
I know I’m halfway through the Devils Night series and I need to write my review of Hideaway but it’s currently 7am Christmas Eve, my husband is poorly so he won’t let me sleep and I decided that I needed to read some Christmas books to get me into the Christmas spirit.
I don’t remember how I ended up reading this book, I think it was a Kindle recommendation so my Kindle obviously knows exactly what I need.
Didn’t really know what I was getting into with this book as I have never read anything by this Author before however, I really liked her style and before getting started I looked at her list of books she has written and I have to say just the titles alone make me want to read more of her books. They sound so incredibly sweet that I might need to see my dentist.
So this book opens with a bang and I don’t mean that lightly. The book starts on Christmas Eve when the main character Gracie thinks her grandmother Murray (I’ll get to her) is watching porn after going through a messy divorce but it turns out it is actually Gracies sister Kelly shagging Gracies Fiance James and instead of going nuclear like I would she rolls over shows her belly (not literally) and Kelly and James gets engaged.
Gracie is a walking doormat, her family shit on her from all heights and dote on Kelly who has done naff all to deserve it. As the FMC Gracie was infuriating when it came to how she acts with her family. Her mother and father have brought her up to be this way since Kelly is the golden child and can do no wrong even though everything she does is wrong. They even took Gracie’s bedroom door as a teenager for leaving the house for a little while. Gracie’s family are toxic (except maybe two of them) and the way Gracie is given Cinderella vibes.
So Gracie ends up getting a bus from New York where she works to her sister and ex’s wedding because the ex won’t give her a lift in his car (he tells her family she refused the twat) which is where we meet out MMC Hudson who is Gracie’s polar opposite. Hudson is a tall, dark, and handsome biker with tattoos, who is an arsehole and allergic to all things Christmas, so obviously he is Gracie’s perfect match (even though she chooses him for Kelly).
These two shouldn’t match but the chemistry is off the charts with these two and the smut scenes are something else. She is a 29-year-old virgin and he not only takes her virginity (which is clearly a given) but he does so in her childhood bedroom which if you remember from earlier, DOES NOT HAVE A DOOR. If I was Gracie I would be mortified even if it was to get back at my sister and fiance because Gracie’s toxic family applauds this. I found this super weird, I am close with my family but I am nowhere near this close.
The sex scenes aren’t bad, Gracie almost turns into a nympho straight after losing her virginity which you’d probably think doesn’t add much to the plot but Hudson is devious and uses sex to distract Gracie so he can get on with his mission (mission might be too strong a word but it’s 7am). I actually quite liked how this was done, not the sex but the distraction because at the end of the day, he needs a means to an end and Gracie is it and it’s only a fake relationship anyway.
Or is it?
The plot was good, but the revenge aspect probably could have been a little better considering how good Gracie is at her job, the crown jewel in this book is Granny Murry, what a gem this character is and the reason why I want to read about Gracie’s cousin Dakota in another book. It’s nice for me to see a granny who reminds me of mine instead of you’re typical grandmother. Like Gracie, I had two grandmothers who were the complete opposite and for my Granny Murray I bought chocolate penises for her birthday and she took them to bingo to share them with her friends. This is the type of thing I would expect Granny Murray to do and I love her for it.
This book was a nice Christmas story with a slice of revenge which I am all here for and I’m really happy that Kindle recommended this as it was exactly what I was looking for.
