What it’s about

They lurk in shadows and haunt your dreams, but these supernatural creatures want more than just your soul. From amnesiac vampire slayers to fallen angels, space vampires to cursed tattoo artists, sleep paralysis demons to ancient wish-granting entities—six steamy stories prove that even the most dangerous monsters deserve their happily ever after. This Halloween, treat yourself to a collection that’s equal parts spooky and swoon-worthy.

What I Thought

Sometimes you just want something quick, spooky, and a little sinful to devour in one sitting. The Scared Sexy collection promised exactly that: short, Halloween-themed romances from some of the biggest names in the genre. I read them all back-to-back, and here’s how they stacked up…

Hot for Slayer – Ali Hazelwood ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The standout of the collection. Ali blends her signature humor with a slow-burn forbidden romance between an immortal slayer and his sworn vampire nemesis. Yes, there are sudoku puzzles. Yes, it somehow works. It’s witty, tender, and surprisingly heartfelt for a novella.

Falling – Christina Lauren ⭐⭐

A shepherd-and-lamb Halloween costume gone wrong, a broody immortal, and multiple orgasms later… this one still felt flat. With pacing constraints, I expected snappy fun, but instead it landed humorless and rushed. Even with a cheeky Twilight nod, it didn’t leave a mark.

Spicy Little Curses – J.T. Geissinger ⭐⭐⭐

Voodoo vibes, curses, and strange bargains made this one a bit outside my usual tastes. That said, it had atmosphere and at least kept me curious. A little uneven, but stronger than Falling.

Space Vampire – Ruby Dixon ⭐⭐

This was… chaotic. I usually love this brand of weird, but this leaned more “WTF” than “fun space romp.” It had potential but veered too far into absurdity for me to enjoy.

Beautiful Nightmare – Katee Robert ⭐⭐⭐½

Exactly what you’d expect from Katee: dark, sexy, fast. It was fun while it lasted but too quick to really land the emotional punch. More of a flash of heat than a slow smolder.

My Boyfriends Are All Monsters – Kimberly Lemming ⭐⭐⭐

Weird, quirky, and self-aware. A FMC who wishes for a Hallmark happy-ever-after and ends up with a monster mash of suitors. It’s bizarre but in a knowingly playful way that made it more charming than clunky.

Final Thoughts 🩸

The Scared Sexy collection is exactly like a Halloween candy bag: some pieces you savor, some you toss aside, and a couple that surprise you. Hot for Slayer is the clear winner — clever, funny, and deliciously forbidden. The rest range from quirky to head-scratching, but as a whole, it’s a fun, seasonal binge.

If you’re after something short, steamy, and a little spooky this autumn, this collection scratches the itch — even if not every monster stole my heart.
