What it’s about

There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I’ve gotten what I came for.

Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map—the key to a legendary treasure trove—seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship.

More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate, Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.

Author

Initially from a small town in Oregon, Tricia now lives next to the Rocky Mountains with her bossy dog, Rosy. She received her degree in English Language and editing and is thrilled that she never has to read a textbook again. When she’s not writing or reading, Tricia enjoys putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing volleyball, playing OVERWATCH, and watching shows while eating extra-buttered popcorn.

What I Thought

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

As I’ve loved Pirates since Johnny Depp left the mast of his borrowed boat in The Curse of the Black Pearl when I saw this book on NetGalley I knew I had to have it.

This was a fantastic YA book with such a strong main character, such a refreshing change from the Damsel in distress we normally see in Pirate-related things.

Alosa is fun, quick-witted with a sharp temper and she is unapologetically her own person. She doesn’t appear to take any crap from anyone but more so from Riden and his brother Draxen.

I thought that Riden was a little soft to be a Pirate but once you find out his story it’s completely understandable and why he has such a kind and gentle spirit. Draxen on the other hand is a piece of shit and I couldn’t care for him.

The slow-burn romance was fabulous and can’t wait for more. Yay for no love triangles in this. I’m currently sick of reading about love triangles and I hope I haven’t spoke too soon.

Looking forward to reading book 2.
